TROWBRIDGE Wanderers manager John Phillips was over the moon to see his side claim the derby spoils against rivals Trowbridge Town last weekend.

Wanderers, who are third in the Wiltshire League Premier Division after their fifth league win in a row, claimed victory over their town counterparts for the second time this season thanks to a 1-0 triumph at the Lambrok playing fields.

After a goalless first half, the decisive goal came as Wanderers’ Nathan Glass flicked on a corner kick and the Town goalkeeper’s punch flew into the roof of the net.

“We tried to treat it like any other match but it was a little bit feisty because it was a derby game,” said Phillips.

“The referee could have booked a lot of players but I think he realised that if he did it for every challenge, there wouldn’t have been many left on the pitch.

“A draw might have probably been fair but we got a bit of luck, which we haven’t had that much of this season, and we’ve got the bragging rights.

“It was also nice to win for our coach Robbie Simmonds, who’s having a bone marrow transplant.

“He’s been through a tough time but he’s doing a lot better now and it’s good to get the win for him because he’s been a big part of what we’ve done this season.”

Elsewhere in the league, bottom-of-the-table Marlborough Town picked up a vital three points as they beat Wootton Bassett Town 2-0 whilst Malmesbury Victoria notched up their second win in a row as they hammered Devizes Town Reserves 5-1.

Corsham Town Reserves earned a point drew 2-2 with sixth-placed Shrewton United whilst in the Senior KO Cup, Supermarine Sports booked a place in the quarter-finals as they beat Sarum Youth 3-0.
