BOSS Paul Shanley hailed Bradford Town’s character as they came from a goal down to triumph at Brislington on Tuesday night.

Bradford found themselves behind in the closing stages at Ironmould Lane as the home side broke the deadlock against the run of play, but they refused to be beaten and goals from Sam Jordan and Twaine Plummer snatched the points.

The result capped a very good week for Shanley’s men, who were also 3-1 winners at Street on Saturday.

Jordan was also on target that day as he bagged a brace at the Tannery Ground, with Matt Chant also hitting the back of the net for Bradford.

The six-point haul puts Bradford up to third in the table with just nine games to go. They have won seven of the last eight league games, with the only blemish being a defeat at home to Bitton at the end of February.

Boss Shanley said: “We asked questions of the players’ commitment after the Bitton game and since then we’ve had that.

“We went one down with about seven minutes to go but we showed great character and kept believing and scored twice in the last five minutes to get the win.

“I was really pleased with what I saw and we showed a lot of character. We dominated large periods of the game but then got hit by a sucker punch.

“A lot of teams would have folded after that but we kept on battling for the win.

“I was delighted with that result. The performances haven’t been the best but at this stage of the season it’s results you look at and not performances.”

Bradford turn their attentions to the Les Phillips Cup on Saturday and travel to Division One title chasers Welton Rovers in the second round.

Matt Chant and Jamie Bartlett will miss the fixture as they are both cup tied.

Shanley’s men are back in league action on Wednesday and host Willand Rovers.

“They are both tough games and both as important,” added Shanley.

“The Les Phillips Cup is a priority for us. There’s a home quarter-final against Gillingham up for grabs so if we win the draw would start to open up.”
