CHRIS Birleson’s Freshford United have been denied the chance of going for an unprecedented league and cup quadruple after they were sensationally beaten 3-2 by third division outfit Potterne in the second of this season's Chantry Digital Ltd-sponsored Knockout Cup semi-finals.

Having already beaten Craig Campbell’s side 4-1 in the A&B Cup and after taking a 2-0 interval lead, Freshford were certainly living up to their tag as favourites and looked on course to add a Knockout Cup final place to the ones the already have in the Wiltshire Junior and A&B Cup.

However a mix of complacency and fighting spirit from Potterne enable the later to turn things around in an incredible second half.

Goals from Ricky Trott and Tom Rooney both with assists from Steve Roddy put Freshford in the driving seat at 2-0. Potterne halved their arrears through Jamie Bayes who scored from the penalty spot.

Potterne were dealt a blow to their chance when they had Lee Sanders sent off for a second bookable offence, but despite being a man down they managed to get themselves back on level terms, Steven House netting for 2-2.

Freshford seemed to have the stuffing knocked out of them and things got worse for the first division side when they had keeper Chris Foley dismissed and Potterne made the most of their opportunity and thanks to Neil Clark completed the amazing turnaround to hand them a 3-2 win which means they will face second division White Horse in April’s final.
