A SINGLE goal in Somerset was enough to see off Westbury United for the second Saturday in a row, with Shaun Gardiner’s men coming out on the wrong end of their trip to Wellington.
Westbury, who were also beaten 1-0 at Cheddar on March 14, succumbed to an Ian Bellinger goal early in the second half, condemning them to a sixth defeat on the spin.
The hosts struck the crossbar in the early stages through Luke Redrup’s header whilst Connor Bryant had an effort finger-tipped away by United goalie Callum Hotine.
Westbury kept the scores level until the break but a few minutes into the second period, their defence was undone as Wellington won a free-kick on the edge of the area and Bellinger fired home a low strike into the bottom left-hand corner.
The home side piled on the pressure in search of a second goal, with Ryan Elliott clearing an effort off the line, but Gardiner’s side almost snatching something as Callum Cooper had a header saved by Jake Viney before Sam Clift fired just over the bar from a Gary Tugwell set-piece.
