NICK Holton made an immediate impact on his return to Corsham Town as he inspired them to a comfortable victory away at Westbury United on Easter Monday.

Holton was Corsham’s star man during the 2013-14 season but moved to Australia over the summer. However, he was back in Wiltshire over the Easter weekend to attend his sister’s wedding.

Corsham boss Trevor Rawlings was quick to swoop for Holton’s services again and he was the catalyst for Town’s win at Meadow Lane.

Rawlings men had previously been held to a goalless draw at home by Chippenham Park on Good Friday but led at half-time on Monday when Holton was brought down in the box, allowing Levi Cox to score from the spot.

Holton then staked a claim for Corsham’s second goal after the break, although Rawlings admitted he is still not sure if it was actually Sam Ockwell who got the final touch.

“It’s only one game but it’s nice to have Nick back,” said Rawlings.

“We’ve missed him as he was our player of the year last season. His type of player is hard to replace.

“We were pleased with that haul. Friday was a bit of a nothing game but on Monday we were much better.

“Although it was only 2-0 we were quite convincing winners. We were comfortable and it could have been more.

“But the three points are all the matters and when it comes to local derbies it’s just important to win, it doesn’t matter how you do it.”

Corsham have just three games left to play, starting away at Portishead Town on Saturday before home and away fixtures against Wellington on consecutive weekends.

Rawlings added: “We have been hit and miss recently. It’s been win, lose, draw, win, lose, draw.

“We haven’t been consistent enough but with the injury problems we’ve had it’s been very good to get the points on the board that we have done.

“Now we just want to finish the season as high up as we can but we know the two teams we’ve got left are in really good form so they’re going to be tough games.”
