DARREN Perrin admitted his Melksham Town side were somewhat fortunate to finish on top after Dan King’s late strike saw them beat Bradford Town on Good Friday.

King had given league leaders Melksham the lead in the first half but Neikell Plummer restored parity in the second half.

A red card for Bradford’s Shaun Percival then gave Melksham the initiative and King grabbed his second of the game to snatch the win.

Perrin said: “I’m not sure we deserved the win. Over the 90 minutes Bradford probably shaded the game but we’re delighted to have got the three points.

“It was a feisty, competitive local derby between two good sides.”

The weekend results mean Perrin’s men are virtually guaranteed to finish in the top two and they face a straight fight with Buckland Athletic to lift the title.

Melksham are 11 points clear at the top but Buckland have three games in hand.

“For us to finish in the top two in the Western League is a magnificent achievement,” said Perrin, who was named manager of the month for March after Town collected 17 points from seven games.

“It’s the highest we’ve ever finished in our history. We feel immensely proud of the players for what they have done.

“The award is down to the players and everyone who is involved at any level at the club. What we have achieved this year is nothing short of a miracle.

“The players have been unbelievable this season and I just hope for their sake that they can see the job through.

“Even if they don’t we will still feel immensely proud of everyone for giving their absolute all this year.

“We have got three games left and we will just see what happens. We will give it a right good go.”
