FROME Town chief Adrian Foster says that he’ll be striving for continuity next season.

The Robins’ Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division status was secured on the final day of the season with Banbury United’s defeat to Chesham United whilst their own 1-1 draw with play-off finalists St Neots Town at Badgers Hill made safety doubly certain.

But after beginning the season with high expectations, manager Foster labelled his side’s campaign ‘disastrous’ and is planning to do everything he can to have his strongest team available on a more regular basis next term.

“It’s been a disastrous season and I haven’t really enjoyed it,” said Foster.

“I’ve said it before – if I’d had my strongest 11 available to me and I’d been able to name the same team for 10 or 15 games in a row, things could have been different.

“But I haven’t been able to do that. In our first game of the season, I lost one player to a broken foot and had two sent off. We had our goalkeeper, Darren Chitty, out for two months and we bring in Ed Baldy from Bradford (Town) and he breaks his finger.

“We were having six or seven players out at a time. Even in the last game of the season, we had three missing.

“It was injuries but it was also the discipline too. We started fining the players and that did improve after that.

“I brought in Tonks (Antony Tonkin), Chris McGrath and Lewis Haldane – three players with good professional backgrounds – but I wasn’t able to add them to the eight players I wanted.

“We need to try and improve on the continuity next season. If we do that, we’ll do a lot better.”

Foster’s thoughts have already turned to supplementing his squad next season and Frome are set to case their net on May 14 when they hold an open trial for players wishing to earn a possible spot in the Robins manager’s pre-season plans.

Foster added: “I want to try and keep most of the same squad together. One or two may leave but I’m already talking to a couple about joining us.”

Ollie Taylor’s second half goal cancelled out Drew Roberts opener against St Neots.
