IT has been a mixed start for Corsham Town’s new boss Jeff Roberts as his side picked up up three points from their opening two games.

Corsham got the new season off to a fine start as they opened their campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win at recently-relegated Bishop Sutton.

However, that was followed up with the first defeat of their new campaign against local rivals Chippenham Park.

Dave Ferris’ side took the lead on the stroke of half-time.

It was a double blow for the hosts as Sam Ockwell saw red for handball, before Park’s Robbie Burton converted from the penalty spot.

On Saturday Roberts’ side made the trip to Somerset and got their season up and running in style, with the new Southbank boss tasting victory in his first competitive game in charge of the club.

Dan Lardner opened the scoring from the penalty spot at Lakeview, before Matt Jenkins volleyed home and Dan King made it 3-0, all within the first 45 minutes.

Hosts Sutton, who finished bottom of the Toolstation League Premier Division last term, shut up shop in the second half and managed to hold firm, despite the best efforts of Corsham’s star men Lardner and Keiron Gleed.

Roberts’ men are on the road again next weekend when they make the trip to Roman Glass St George, who were bested 2-1 at Radstock Town on the opening weekend of the season.
