BRADFORD Town may have just a single point to show for their efforts but boss Paul Shanley is satisfied with his team’s efforts in the opening week of the season.

Sam Jordan’s opener wasn’t enough to prevent Bradford losing 2-1 at Barnstaple Town last Saturday. On Wednesday night, striker Jordan was on target again, cancelling out Odd Down’s first half goal at Trowbridge Road.

Michael Rimmer restored Bradford’s lead from the penalty spot after Twaine Plummer was brought down in the box, but the visitors snatched a share of the spoils with around ten minutes remaining.

“We’ve only got one point but I’m pretty happy with this first week,” said Shanley.

“We were unlucky not to get a point at Barnstaple on Saturday. On Wednesday, with a bit better finishing, we could have taken all three.

“If you don’t take your chances at one end and let in goals from set-pieces at the other, you won’t win games, which is what happened, but I’d be more worried if we weren’t creating chances.

“We’ve got a few new players that are getting settled in and I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far.”

Bradford are in action in the country’s most famous cup competition tomorrow when they host Sydenhams League outfit United Services Portsmouth in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.

Shanley added: “All the lads look forward to playing in the FA Cup and there’s some good money in the competition, so it’s an important game. We know a bit about them.”
