FROME Town chief Nick Bunyard is hoping a 2-1 win at Egham Town in the first qualifying round is the start of a lengthy FA Trophy run.

Although, the Robins are currently in the relegation zone in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, they have played more games than all the other sides around them and Bunyard hopes the Trophy can become a healthy distraction.

Frome got off to a slow start against lower-league Egham and were behind with just six minutes on the clock.

However, Corby Moore and Tyler Sibbick then struck in quick succession to give the visitors the lead at the break and they never looked like relinquishing that in the second half.

“We are out of the FA Cup and the league is everyone’s bread and butter and given our position it is taking up a lot of our attention,” said Bunyard.

“But we are quite happy to have a run in the Trophy and get a few more fixtures under our belts.

“We are carrying a few more games more than the other teams so it’s difficult to assess where we really are.

“It would be good for the other sides to catch us up in that regard so we have a better understanding of where we are.

“Although it was a close scoreline it wasn’t really a nervy one. I think we were relatively good value for the win in terms of the chances we created.

“We had six players missing and we played a couple of lads with knocks as we were thin on the ground.

“I wasn’t expecting a lot as they are top of the league below and are in good form at home and scoring a few goals.

“We coped well after a slow start and had a couple of good chances and should have put the game to bed before we actually did.”

Frome return to league action on Saturday and entertain play-off chasing Hungerford Town.

The Robins are hoping to welcome back Marcus Mapstone and Jordy Nkunga into the squad after the duo missed the Trophy tie.

Bunyard said: “We are unbeaten in seven at home so the form has been good and I’ve been happy with the performance levels. It will be a tough game as they are a very good side but hopefully we can carry this form on and get another good result.”
