IT MAY not have been the most mature performance from Frome but they saw off Cheddar with ease to move into the next round of the Somerset Premier Cup.

New signing Mitchell Page started his first game against the Toolstation First Division side and made an immediate impact as the visitors secured a 3-0 win.

Page, who started the season at Paulton Rovers before moving to Western super Mare, has linked back up with former boss Nick Bunyard who doesn’t think there is a better target man in the division.

“He struggled with a few injuries this year and the travelling in the National League was taking its toll on him and his young family so he wanted something more local,” said the Frome boss.

“He is a target man, good with his back to goal, links the play well and is a big physical presence.

“I didn’t see a better target man in the Southern League Premier last season.”

Ricky Hulbert broke his goal drought that stretched all the way back to January 25, 2014 with two goals and another from Darren Jefferies saw Frome run out comfortable winners.

“It was quite comfortable overall but we didn’t play very well,” added Bunyard.

“Cheddar, to their credit, made it difficult for us on a heavy and bobbly pitch and to get away unscathed is the main thing.

“Obviously the league is the most important thing and then we have got a big FA Trophy game this Saturday, so those two at this point would take priority but I have won this competition with Paulton and towards the end of the season it is quite a nice distraction.”

Town now face Slough at Badgers Hill in the FA Trophy, a tournament Bunyard would like to have success in, but knows the Southern Football League Division One Midlands side will be no pushovers.

“With the mixed start to the league campaign it would be nice to have a run but Slough are on great form and we’ll do well to get something out of the game,” he said.
