FRESHFORD United kept their hopes of retaining the Briken Motors & A M Print & Copy-sponsored A&B Cup very much alive thanks to a 6-2 victory over fellow first division outfit Semington Magpies, who they had already defeated twice this term.

In what was an end-to-end encounter, Semington had as many chances as their opponents and had they taken them the result may have been different.

Clinical finishing from the hosts saw them lead 5-0 before Semington turned a chance into a goal.

Tom Rooney set up Jason Povey for the opener, Richie Bliha doubled the lead with a fine individual effort and Dave Percival made it 3-0 from a Povey assist.

Povey was again the provider for Freshford’s fourth, this time it was Bliha who was the beneficiary.

Richie Bliha completed his hat-trick to give Freshford a 5-0 lead with the next goal going the way of Semington, Ashley Whitaker finally finding the net for Dave Jenkins' side.

Povey was thankful to the efforts of Gavin Eyre for his second of the afternoon and Freshford’s sixth.

Sean O’Brien grabbed a second for Semington, but by then it was game over as Freshford were on course to the semi-finals.

Hilperton United will join both Freshford and Westbury Town in the semi-final draw after seeing off fellow top-flight outfit Warminster Town Reserves.

An excellent second half show from the visitors to Weymouth Street earning them a 5-2 win.

Sam Clift saw his opener for Warminster cancelled out by Ben Smith and at one each at the interval the tie was in the balance, but things quickly turned Hilperton’s way in the second period as goals from Ryan Underwood and a second from Smith gave them a 3-1 lead.

Tom Welch pulled a goal back for Warminster which was little more than a consolation as Jake Samuel and Smith with his third of the afternoon sealed victory for the villagers.
