FRESHFORD United booked their place in the semi-finals of this seasons Somerset Junior Cup after beating Perry Street & District League outfit Shepton Beauchamp.

However Chris Birleson’s side did it the hard way, leading 4-2 and 5-3 they looked to be cruising to the last four, but in the end they needed extra time to seal a 7-6 win.

Jason Povey and Tom Rooney put them two up.

Shepton halved the deficit only for Nick Ross to make it 3-2, Shepton struck again but Freshford went in to the interval 4-2 in front courtesy of a Dave Percival penalty.

After the break the gap was down to the odd goal as Shepton scored within a minute of the restart. Steve Roddy made it 5-3 but back came Shepton with a two-goal blast to level things up at 5-5 and take the game to added time where they took the lead for the first time in the contest.

Percival scored his second penalty of the game to regain the lead for Freshford and he finally won it for Birleson’s side when he headed home a Roddy cross to seal a thrilling if nail biting 7-6 win.
