FROME Town chief Nick Bunyard hopes that his team’s dramatic victory over high-flying Hitchin Town will reignite the interest of the Robins fans that have seemingly become disillusioned with his side’s plight.

Frome remain in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division relegation zone but added a fine three points to their tally as debutant George Miller, signed from Gloucester City, struck a 90th-minute winner at Top Field to settle a thrilling clash, in which both teams ended with 10 men.

An FA Trophy defeat to National League South Weston-super-Mare was Hitchin’s only loss in 19 games heading into their defeat at the hands of the Robins last weekend and Bunyard is eyeing a potential turning point in his team’s season.

“Hopefully that result wakes up a few of the fans to come out and get behind us,” said the Badgers Hill boss.

“We didn’t have very many fans come to watch us at King’s Lynn (on December 12) and we lost that game 1-0 but played very well.

“We were very good in one half against Dorchester too and I think that people have been concentrating too much on the results, without looking at how we’ve been playing.

“Saturday’s game had it all, really. We were disappointed to have Rob Hobbs sent off and then, after getting a goal from a set-piece just before half-time, to concede from what was a completely undeserved penalty just a minute later.

“It was a very tricky team talk at half-time but we reorganised and spoke about isolating some of their players that had already been booked, and we managed to get one sent off.

“George Miller has scored a fantastic strike into the top corner from 25 yards and even though the referee got eight minutes of added time from somewhere, we got the win.

“I think that as soon as we get out of the relegation zone, we’ll kick on.

"We’ve got to work to do but hopefully this result shows that we can get results away from home in this league on our day.”

Rob Hobbs received his marching orders for kicking out at an opponent in retaliation and after Mitchell Page stooped to nod home from a Jon Davies free-kick, Jonny McNamara headed in Hitchin’s equaliser.

But the hosts’ Lewis Rolfe received a second yellow card for fouling James Fitzgibbon, with Miller’s late heroics sealing victory.

Bunyard expects striker Liam Monelle to join Mangotsfield United or Larkhall Athletic but has brought in midfielder Dan Cleverley – his former charge at Paulton Rovers – from the latter.

The Frome boss said: “I played with Dan and he was my captain when I was at Paulton. He had a year out of football after picking up a cruciate knee ligament injury but he’s played for the last three months at Larkhall.

“He’s a leader and someone you’d want in the trenches with you. It’s a very good signing for the club.”
