TWO goals either side of half-time proved to be the undoing of Frome Town last night as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Cambridge City.

Proceedings started brightly for Nick Bunyard’s side, who find themselves in the final relegation spot in the Southern League Premier Division table, and they were awarded a penalty in the seventh minute when Dan Cleverley saw his shot from the edge of the box parried and Sam Teale on the follow-up was adjudged to have been pushed, with George Miller slotting home from 12 yards.

The hosts were able to haul themselves back level five minutes before the break when the ball fell kindly to Buster Harradine on the edge of the box and Cambridge’s skipper was able to find the top corner with his effort.

Cambridge then needed just a minute after the break to get the decisive goal as Darren Chitty was only able to parry an initial shot from the edge of the area but Harradine reacted the quickest and tapped home from close range to claim his second of the game.

“Both goals, the one before half-time and the one after were quite similar, we didn’t really deal with throw-ins,” said Bunyard.

“We weren’t opened up at all in open play but there were two throw-ins that weren’t dealt with and they were both really scrappy goals and difficult to stomach.

“The pitch was a disgrace. Massive eyebrows were raised when the game was called on in the first place.

“We had seven first-team players missing and it would have been ideal if it was postponed from our perspective.”

Frome now turn their attention to a trip to Leamington on Saturday.

Bunyard said: “We’ve got a tough little run of games but I am liking what I am seeing from the squad and we are positive we can go anywhere and get a result.”
