A PAIR of second-half goals saw Westbury United make it two wins from three in 2016 as they swept past Division One play-off chasers Oldland Abbotonians 2-0 at home.

After a goalless first period, Francois Allen broke the deadlock for James Goddard's side before strike partner Daniel Moore doubled the lead.

Having beaten Roman Glass St George by the same scoreline on January 16, recording their first clean sheet of the season in the process, Goddard is delighted with how solid his side are looking at both ends of the pitch.

"It was a really good performance from us. We were missing five or six first-team players so to go out and win the game was fantastic and it just shows how strong our squad is now from where it was a few months ago," said Goddard.

"These couple of wins have been our first clean sheets in a long time. We know we are good going forwards but to have that solidity at the back as well now is going to be important.

"Francois and Dan have struck up a good partnership up front and I think they have six goals each now. Having players that can score goals is going to be massive for us.

"In the first half neither team really dominated but we began the second half very well. We went 1-0 up and then played to our game plan and we were able to get a second goal on the counter."

Westbury have no game this weekend and are next in action when they travel to second-from-bottom Wincanton Town on Saturday week.

Goddard added: “That rest is going to be important for us with those five or six injuries so hopefully we can come back together for Wincanton with a fully-fit squad.”
