WESTBURY United are facing a fight to avoid finishing second-from-bottom in the Toolstation League First Division after they were hammered at Wincanton Town on Tuesday night.
Third-from-bottom Wincanton opened up a five-point gap between themselves and James Goddard’s men by romping to a 4-1 win over United in Somerset and they have two more matches to play before the end of the season.
Westbury, who were ravaged by injury and player unavailability, were put to the sword courtesy of goals from the hosts’ Gary Chapman, Andy Mitchell, Iwan Walters and Connor Morley, with Zayn Alime netting a late consolation effort as his left-wing cross drifted all the way into the net.
On Saturday, United were beaten 3-0 at mid-table Wellington, with Conor Bryant, Kai Fisher and substitute Luke Redrup heaping misery on Goddard’s side.
