WARMINSTER Town slipped to a third defeat on the spin as they were unable to throw a spanner in the works of Chard Town’s title challenge on Wednesday night.
Andy Crabtree’s men, who currently sit 18th in the Toolstation League First Division, were able to keep their Somerset hosts at bay for 50 minutes but eventually succumbed to two second-half goals as Chard moved to within a point of the league summit.
The deadlock was broken five minutes into the second half when Lewis Waldy fired home a 30-yard effort and Chard made it 2-0 when Sam Clark smashed home from the edge of the box.
On Saturday, Warminster also suffered defeat on the road as they were beaten 3-1 at Radstock Town.
Sam Gregory and Jack Witcombe netted in the first half for the home side and despite Jack Miluk finding the net for Crabtree’s side, Witcombe was on target again in the 73rd minute to ensure a comfortable day at the office for Radstock.
Warminster host Roman Glass St George this weekend.
