A 65th-MINUTE goal from Jake Jackson cancelled out Sam Merson’s early opener as Frome Town signed off their Premier Division season by holding Redditch United to a draw on Saturday.

The match started brightly, with both sides looking for the opening goal, and both had free-kicks in dangerous positions that the keepers did well to deal with.

Merson shot wide for the visitors and when he flicked a header wide soon afterwards, it was obvious that Redditch were looking for victory.

Frome countered and Mike Bryant blasted over, then Jackson clipped a shot past the near post.

However, Redditch took the lead in the 15th minute as James Clark set up Merson to despatch the ball into the far corner.

An audacious shot by Ashley Sammons from inside the Frome half clipped the post and he then curled a free-kick over the bar as Frome did well to limit the damage.

Jon Davies and George Miller both brought saves from Jose Veiga at the other end and the pressure paid off 20 minutes into the second period as a Frome throw was collected by Jackson, who stabbed the dropping ball home from 10 yards.

Frome almost scored again in the 77th minute as Mitchell Page went close but the hosts’ chances on a win ended when Sam Teale was shown a second yellow three minutes from time.

Still, the point earned Frome their highest ever points finish in the Southern League Premier Division.
