THE battle to become Division One champions has been one of the closest for many seasons, but after the latest round of results Luxol St Andrews find themselves needing to beat Hilperton United on Tuesday evening to be crowned champions.

Luxol, who beat White Horse FC 10-0 to move top of the table, could still slip up should they lose to both Hilperton and Freshford United and Warminster Town beat Semington Magpies.

Mark Reynolds opened the scoring for Luxol who were 4-0 in front at half time, Jed Osborne made it 2-0, Reynolds added his second to make it 3-0 and Ben Ryder took it to 4-0.

Shavon Allen helped himself to a couple at the start of the second half, Aaron Cockerill, Cameron Thomas, Ben Hogg all netted before Reynolds completed the scoring with his third and Luxol’s tenth of the afternoon.

Freshford United may have defeated fellow title hopefuls Potterne 6-1, but for the two-time defending champions, their hopes of picking up a third successive winners' crown looks to have disappeared after Luxol St Andrews win over White Horse.

The villagers have an outside chance of winning the title but for that to happen they must beat Luxol next weekend and hope that Hilperton can deny them victory on Tuesday evening.

Warminster must also lose to Semington which would leave the door ajar for Freshford to pull of what would be an incredible title success.

Freshford were well below par for their game with a Potterne side who played the whole game with 10 men but led 1-0 at the break through a Steven House goal.

Two goals inside the opening five minutes of the second half turned the game in favour of Freshford, Dean Ranger saw his shot turned into his own net by Darren Lewis to restore parity and Frankie Elliott with an assist from Weleed Bakali gave them the lead.

Nick Ross was set up by Jason Povey for the third goal and Povey himself made it 4-1 after good work from Dave Percival.

Percival then won and scored a penalty for 5-1 and substitute Chris Birleson fired home number six after being set up by Theo Sing.
