AFTER Frome had led 1-0 at half time, a disappointing second half which saw both sides reduced to 10 men saw Kings Lynn equalise and then catch the home side with two late counterattacks that saw them run out as 3-1 winners.

With Jordan Walker suspended, Jake Jackson injured and Sam Teale not yet fully fit, Chris Gregan started at left back with Clayton Green moving into midfield and George Miller taking on the number nine shirt.

Frome took the lead in the sixth minute their first real attack .

Mitchell Page lost control, but the ball came off the central defender and broke to Darren Jefferies who advanced into the box and struck a low left foot shot into the corner of the goal.

Kings Lynn replied with a period of pressure and as Jon Davies was dispossessed as he tried to break, Lynn’s Toby Hillard missed a big chance as he broke unchallenged into the box but skied his shot high and wide with only Darren Chitty to beat.

Hillard was to miss an even bigger chance in the 14th minute as Shaun McWilliams broke into the box on the right and as he shot across the face of the goal, the unmarked Hillard should have buried it from close range, but his shot lacked pace and direction and Chitty was able to make a good save.

Despite Frome being generally second best, they almost made it 2-0 in the 20th minute as Davies robbed Matt Castellan on the edge of the box and as he played the ball into the area, Lynn’s Alex Street made an excellent save to tio away the shot of Clayton Green who had come bursting into the box.

Frome’s lack of depth in their squad was highlighted in the 24th minute as their rock-solid centre half Marcus Mapstone was forced off with a knee injury to be replaced by a wide midfield player Josh Ferguson, requiring Clayton Green to play at centre half, his third position in two matches.

Despite Lynn tending to be the better side in the first half, Frome were still comfortable defending their lead, but things changed in the third minute of injury time as a challenge on Jefferies by Dan Quigley went unpunished.

The winger reacted to the challenge and after a melee had erupted, when the dust settled, Frome’s Page and Lynn’s Quigley were both shown straight reds, with the referee indicating that Page had thrown a punch and Quigley had kicked out when on the floor.

Frome started well enough in the second half, but couldn’t create a chance in a match that was continually being interrupted by the referee’s whistle.

They only held on in the 54th minute as a Lynn right wing corner found Lee Stevenson unmarked, and after Chitty had pulled off a great save for the first header, the ball was swung back in and Stevenson’s second header thumped against the bar.

After a Matt Castellan header had skimmed the home cross bar, Kings Lynn equalised in the 60th minute as a foul by Jefferies on the edge of the box led to a free kick that was hammered into the wall, only for the rebound to fall kindly for Mike Clunan who hit a great drive into the corner from just outside the box.

To their credit, Frome went looking for the winner but looked a bit ragged and were failing to created chances. Kings Lynn were looking content to soak up the pressure and take home the point, but as Frome went forward they were leaving big gaps at the back and they were caught cold in the 78th minute as a right wing throw was missed by two defenders and Stevenson found himself unmarked in the box and shot low into the corner giving Chitty no chance.

Aidan Kirby came on to replace Dan Cleverley in the 83rd minute as Frome threw everything at the visitors, but it made no real impact and they were caught cold again in the 86th minute as a right wing counter attack led to a cross that was easily fired home by Hillard, with two more Lynn forwards queueing up to score should he have missed his shot.
