WESTBURY United failed to follow up Saturday’s win when they lost 4-0 to local rivals Devizes Town on Tuesday.

James Goddard’s team went into Tuesday’s clash with their county rivals on the back of a 2-1 weekend triumph over Roman Glass St George, with both goals coming from Dan Moore.

However, a double for Jamie Walters plus a goal each for Jamie Wallen and Robert Mitchell took Devizes to a comfortable win in midweek, with Goddard admitting his side had looked weary.

“I think we played well on Saturday. The first half was one of the best first halves I have seen from us,” said the Westbury boss.

“They (Roman Glass St George) got back into it but we got the result we needed.

“Fair play to Devizes. They were bang at it. They worked really hard and were just better than us on the day to be honest.

“We looked very leggy and a bit tired. It was just one of those days, I think. We’ve been asking players to play a lot of football over six days, which is a big ask.

“I’m happy with the start. We have to take the positives from it. We have done well but we will need to see where we are in 10 or 15 games.

“I’m not surprised with how well we have done. We knew with the players we have brought in we would have quality; it is just a case of doing the basics.

“We need to be more consistent but that will come with time. We had a lot of players come into the club but some performances have been better than expected.”

United face Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday.

Corsham Town failed to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wellington at the weekend as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Malmesbury Vics on Tuesday night.

Jaiden Savery netted the winner on Saturday, but despite a goal from Ben Pring in midweek, strikes from Shane Bumphrey and Josh Hughes earned county rivals Malmesbury all three points.

Nigel Tripp’s Corsham will hope to turn things around when they host Welton Rovers at the Southbank on Saturday afternoon.

Warminster Town were unable to see out their half-time lead against Bishop Sutton as they were held to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

Louis Sparey had put Mark Breffit’s side in front but they were unable push home their advantage, Craig Parsons equalising for Sutton.

Warminster turn their attentions to their trip to Bishops Lydeard on Saturday.
