WESTBURY United booked their place in the second round of the FA Vase as goals from Jordan Pinder and Nathan Hallet-Young saw them beat Folland Sports 2-1 on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead in the first half, much to the displeasure of manager James Goddard despite his side’s revival.

“We got there in the end. It was hard when they got the early goal, they sat very deep and made it hard for us,” said the Westbury chief.

“We dominated the ball, to be honest. They got their goal in the first 10 minutes but in the second half the two lads came on and did well.

“Once we got the first it was only a matter of time until we got the second. It was good, we didn’t rush, we kept playing and moving them around.”

Saturday will see Westbury take on Portishead Town, who are currently enjoying a great start to the Toolstation League First Division season with five wins in their first seven games.

“Portishead will be one of the toughest games. They have started very well so it will be a test for us,” added Goddard.

“We should have a full squad to pick from, which is nice. It will be good competition for places but we need to be solid defensively. We know what they’re capable of but we just need to be solid and go what we can going forward.”

Corsham Town were in action on Wednesday when they travelled to Hengrove Athletic, only to get thumped 6-0 by the hosts.
