CORSHAM Town’s fluctuating fortunes continued as one big win was followed by another heavy defeat.

First, visitors Cheddar were ruthlessly swept aside at the Southbank on Saturday in a 3-0 romp. Lewis Russell struck twice and Josh Bright was also on target, with even a red card for Jaiden Savery failing to halt Corsham’s charge.

However, Nigel Tripp’s side could not sustain that form on Wednesday night as they were thumped 4-1 at home by Oldland Abbotonians despite taking an early lead through Nick Chandler.

“We are a Jekyll and Hyde side. We are definitely a Saturday side as every time we play in midweek, we struggle,” said Tripp.

“It’s not the personnel as it’s not like we change the side massively from Saturday to Wednesday, we just didn’t do the things that we normally do.

“Our Saturday form is top of the league but our midweek form is bottom of the league, but I think that’s our first midweek game in a while now so hopefully we can just focus on training between the Saturday games.

“We were as bad on Wednesday as we good on Saturday. We actually did OK in the first 10 to 15 minutes and got in front but then we gave away a penalty to let them equalise and it was downhill from there. We stopped doing the things that we did well on Saturday.”

Corsham face a local derby in the FA Vase next, with a trip to Devizes Town in the second qualifying round on Saturday.

Warminster Town were unable to find a winning formula this week and had to settle for a pair of draws in their two matches.

Tom Welch was on target for Mark Breffit’s men on Saturday as they were held 1-1 by Radstock Town at Weymouth Street.

It was honours even again when Warminster went on the road on Wednesday night, as the score finished 2-2 away at Roman Glass St George. Welch was on target once more and was joined on the scoresheet in Bristol by Patrick Carrig.

Warminster travel to Welton Rovers on Saturday, with both sides level on nine points and in the bottom four in the table.

George Bendle’s double saw Westbury United claim a third win on the bounce in all competitions last Saturday with a 2-0 success away at Portishead Town.

Bendle fired United ahead after 18 minutes on the north Somerset coast and made the points safe with his second in the closing stages.

James Goddard’s side turn their attentions to the FA Vase this weekend when they host Cribbs at Meadow Lane.
