BRADFORD Town’s 1-0 win over Gillingham on Tuesday night saw them move level on points with league leaders Melksham Town.

Karim Rendall’s goal just past the hour mark was enough to ensure Danny Greaves’ men would win all three points on offer and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

After a steady opening, the first chance of the game fell to Matt Morris, but he was denied by the home keeper.

It was then Gillingham’s turn to be on top, but Bradford held on to go into the break with the game goalless, thanks to Jamie Bartlett.

The second half needed the introduction of Rendall and Leon Greenland to inject fresh impetus to proceedings, with the former grabbing a goal in the 66th minute to put Bradford in the lead.

Gillingham would threaten to snatch a point when they hit the woodwork late on, but Greaves’ side were able to hold on for all three points.

“It was a very good win,” said Greaves. “It was a difficult place to go down to Gillingham and they’re a good side, especially for us coming on the back of a tough game on Saturday. To get a 1-0 on a Tuesday night away from home is a great result for us.

“Our league position has been a welcome surprise for us, when I arrived in the summer and put the group of players together I would have expected it to take a bit longer for the team to gel.

“The start was a bit slow with a few draws, we possibly should have picked up a few more points but it’s a case now of the longer you go the more the confidence grows.

“It’s a great start but we don’t want to get carried away and we are taking it every game at a time, it’s on to the next one, it is something to be proud of.”

Greaves will takes his side to Hallen tomorrow as they look to extend their unbeaten run.
