DANNY Greaves believes it is far too soon to judge whether Bradford Town can be Toolstation Premier Division title contenders this season, despite seeing his side climb to the top of the table this week.

A hard-fought 2-1 success away at Hallen allowed Bradford to capitalise on a 3-1 loss for previous leaders Melksham Town at Shepton Mallet and replace their rivals at the head of the standings, level on points with Bristol Manor Farm.

Greaves has enjoyed an outstanding start to his tenure at Trowbridge Road after taking over from long-serving predecessor Paul Shanley over the summer and Bradford remain the only unbeaten side in division as the campaign enters its third month.

Bradford will make it 15 league games on the spin without defeat if they do not slip up at home to Clevedon Town on Saturday.

However, Greaves is keeping his feet firmly on the ground instead of making any over-optimistic predictions about what his side are capable of.

“It’s going really well. We’re massively exceeding our expectations at the moment,” said Greaves.

“It’s far too early to start to talk about championships and things like that. There are six or seven sides all within a couple of points of each other, so there are a lot of people who are going to be in the running.

“It’s a boring cliché but we are just taking it one game at a time. If we are still in and around that area of the table come Christmas, then we might change our thinking and look at the bigger picture but right now, it’s just about the next game as we’ve got some really tough ones coming up.”

Bradford open up their Wiltshire Senior Cup campaign at home to Mere Town on Wednesday night and after that, they have league games against Willand Rovers, Manor Farm and Street to overcome in October.

All three are currently in the top seven in the table and Greaves believes this month could be a defining period for his side.

“We have got a really tough October coming up, with some difficult games, but we are playing well and the confidence in the camp is really high, so we have got to try to keep this going as long as we can,” he said.

“The team spirit is second to none considering there were quite a lot of changes over the summer.

“We only kept about five or six of the lads from last year but the boys have all come together and they all want to play for each other.”
