UNDOUBTEDLY the match of the day in Division One was at Christie Miller where leaders Melksham Town A hosted second-placed Stockton & Codford and it was Melksham who prevailed winning 3-2.

A cheeky back-heel from Graham Griffiths saw Melksham take the lead, Sean Fordham’s 35-yard thunderbolt doubled their advantage and, with his second goal in as many games, Kai Bush made it 3-0.

Jason Povey got Stockton back in the game prior to half time and he added his second in the 80th minute as Melksham moved three points clear at the summit.

Freshford United dropped two valuable points in their bid to be crowned champions for a third time in four years.

The villagers were held to a surprise 2-2 draw at home to Trowbridge Town Reserves, who led 2-1 until the 88th minute.

Steve Roddy’s delightful lobbed finish in the second minute put Freshford in front.

Alex Dobbins shaved the woodwork for Trowbridge before Simon Parfitt scored from the spot on 28 minutes after Jason Truckle had been upended to square things up at 1-1.

Freshford, who wasted numerous chances in the first half, paid the price for those misses as Dan Filer’s close-range finish in the 66th minute saw Trowbridge take the lead.

Freshford then had Mark Gerrish sent off, but despite the numerical disadvantage the villagers snatched a share of the spoils when Roddy struck his second of the after to tie the game at 2-2.

Heytesbury continue to struggle at the bottom of the table. The villagers hosted a Semington Magpies side who heaped more woes on their hosts with a 9-0 victory to leave Tom O’Brien’s side winless and pointless in their seven games to date.

Bobby Mitchell’s left-footed volley in the opening minute got his team off to the perfect start.

Sam Malone was on hand to tap in the rebound from a free kick for 2-0 and a first goal in six years for right back Joe Lewis made it 3-0.

Dan Barnett and a Robert Biggs header gave Magpies a 5-0 half time lead.

Substitute Ben Jenkins struck number six, Chris Berrelly volleyed home number eight and his effort sandwiched a Biggs double which saw him complete his hat-trick.

Defending champions Luxol St Andrews remain unbeaten following their 2-0 victory at Hilperton United.

Luxol caught their hosts cold and were 1-0 up inside the opening minute, Tom Rooney heading them in front.

Mark Reynolds made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time.

After the break Luxol keeper Lukasz Bareja was in great form as he produced a number of fine stops which included penalty save to deny Kieran Faraday.

Warminster Town Reserves welcomed near-neighbours Westbury United Reserves to their Weymouth Street ground for what, on paper, looked a certain home win.

The visitors had other idea as they raced to a 3-0 interval lead but a superb second-half performance from Warminster saw them hanging on at the end before claiming a nail-biting 4-3 success.

Nick Taylor, Nathan Hallett-Young and Marc Lanfear capped a perfect opening 45 minutes for Westbury. Greg Richardson reduced Warminster’s arrears only for James Cox to score from the penalty spot to restore Westbury’s three- goal cushion.

A Craig Sheppard double got Warminster to within a goal.

Two goals in the last few minutes saw Westbury Town come from 4-2 down to claim a 4-4 draw with Potterne.

Westbury twice took the lead through Jon Hogarth and Dale Rowland and had a Gary Tugwell penalty saved by Craig Campbell in a first half that saw both Steven House and Wayne House restore parity for Potterne.

A second from Wayne House and a Tom Lye goal put Potterne 4-2 up, but Westbury somehow snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat.

Drew Adams gave them a lifeline and then, with the last kick of the game, Hogarth knocked in a rebound after Campbell, who was subsequently sent off, had saved his spot kick.
