A SECOND-half strike from Jon Davies saw Frome Town progress past Evesham United in the FA Trophy at the second time of asking.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw at the home of the Southern League Division One South & West side to take it to Wednesday night’s replay.

Evesham broke the deadlock in the 16th minute at the weekend Lance Smith’s header, which lift many in the Frome team appealing for handball, fell kindly to Adam Mann to find the back of the net.

While the hosts dominated much of the first period, Frome were able to respond in the second period when subsitute Aiden Kirby set up Davies just shy of the hour mark to find the goal from just inside the box.

Neither side could find the decisive goal which took the tie to a replay at Frome’s Blindmans Brewery Stadium.

Frome went into the game carrying some injuries but were on top in the early stages but Evesham proved dangerous on the break.

The Southern League Premier Division side went within the width of a post of opening the scoring prior to the break before Davies found the top corner in the 63rd minute.
