THE second round of this season’s Chantry Digital-sponsored Knockout Cup threw up a few mouth-watering ties of which the clash at Lacock between first division champions Luxol St Andrews and current Division Two leaders Three Daggers was probably the pick.

It didn’t disappoint either as Luxol claimed a 3-2 extra time win.

Three Daggers totally dominated the first half with Phil Hampson hitting the post and missing another great chance and Mark Young going close before they finally made the breakthrough, Adam Bishop's excellent cross finding the head of Young to glance the ball into the net for 1-0 on 35 minutes.

Against the run of play Luxol almost pulled level, but a deflected shot came off the bar to leave it at 1-0.

Luxol made a blistering start to the second half and were 2-1 in front on 49 minutes thanks to headed goals from Mark Reynolds and Tom Rooney.

Only heroic defending from Ryan Earney, Matt Morgan and Jake Packer kept Daggers in the game.

Daggers came back into the game were on top for long periods with Young, Hampson and Joe Moloney all going close before Ryan Earney netted a late penalty to take the game to extra time .

Again missed chances proved costly as after Scott Walford (twice) and Young failed to make it 3-2, Luxol grabbed a winner when Josh Hard beat Daggers' offside trap to score what was a controversial winner to send his team into the quarter-finals.

Freshford United overcame a spirited performance from Calne Eagles to progress into the quarter-finals.

The game played in a great spirit, was open and entertaining throughout.

Star of the show was Freshford’s Dave Percival who scored a hat trick to cap a fine all-round performance in his team's 4-2 success.

Adam Welch gave Calne the lead against the run of play, Percival equalised from the penalty spot before scoring his second of the afternoon.

Mickey Taraskevics got Calne back on level terms only for Percival with his third of the tie to regain the lead for Freshford.

Waleed Bakali headed home a Gavin Eyre corner to confirm the win.

Knockout Cup holders Melksham Town A were paired with Heytesbury who had another bad day at the office, suffering an 11-0 defeat having played most of the game with 10 players and the final 30 minutes with nine.

A Sean Fordham double and Graham Griffiths effort gave Melksham a 3-0 interval lead. After the break Paul Gittins netted four, Fordham scored from the penalty spot to complete his hat-trick, Neil Grant, a second from Griffiths and a Bradley Butcher penalty made up the 11.

Having already beaten the The Stiffs 7-0 in a league encounter earlier this season, Melksham Town B couldn’t repeat that success in the Knockout Cup as, with Keith Quadling in charge, the Stiffs avenged that defeat with a 3-2 victory.

Stephen Lewin gave The Stiffs the perfect start when he broke the deadlock with just 41 seconds on the clock, and things got better for Quadling’s men when Lewin headed in a Darren Brewer corner to make it 2-0.

Owen Thomson got Melksham back in the contest with a goal prior to half time.

Midway through the second half, Melksham got back on level terms via an Owen Pearce penalty, but having thrown away a two-goal lead The Stiffs regained the lead courtesy of a hat-trick goal from Lewin which proved to be the winner.

The all-first division Knockout Cup tie between Semington Magpies and Westbury United Reserves saw a repeat of their league meeting from a month ago.

Once again it was the Magpies who came out on top after coming from behind to claim a 2-1 extra time win.

Westbury led 1-0 at the break and they stayed in front right until the 90th minute, when Chris Dore headed in for Magpies to take the game into added time, after Sean O’Brien had seen his penalty for Magpies saved by Westbury stopper Rob Mead.

With both teams having chances to win it in extra time, the tie was finally settled following a well-worked Magpies goal, Sam Malone, fed the ball to Tom Biggs who in turn laid the ball to Chris Berrelly who finished well to make it 2-1

First division Westbury Town avoided a possible upset at Trowbridge Town A, who going into the cup tie at Christie Miller had lost just once in their last seven outings.

But despite a spirited display against Bobbie Cunningham’s side they suffered a 3-0 loss. Dale Rowland put Westbury ahead, Drew Adams added a second before half-time and Gary Tugwell’s second-half effort sealed the win.

After taking a point from Freshford United last weekend Trowbridge Town Reserves were bought back down to earth by a Stockton & Codford side who were making their cup debut.

Four goals in each half saw Stockton claim a comfortable 8-2 success.

Chris Bridel set Stockton on their way, Nick Sleeman headed home for 2-0 and he added a second for 3-0.

Ashley Caws put the villagers 4-0 up before Saul Johnson replied for Trowbridge.

The second period was a mirror image of the first with Kieron Edwards netting twice, Sleeman scoring a third and Bridel making it 8-1 before Johnson completed the scoring with his second of the afternoon.

Last season’s beaten finalists Warminster Town Reserves were the first side to make it into the final eight of this terms competition.

Pete Drew’s side received a walkover after being drawn against White Horse, who withdrew from the league.
