MARLBOROUGH Town continued to savour life among the higher reaches of the Wiltshire Senior League with a dominant victory on the road at Bromham last weekend.

Like the other teams towards the top of the table, the Elcot Lane outfit have been in free-scoring form all season and on Saturday, they travelled west and destroyed Bromham 8-1 in their own back yard.

Star striker Devan Bryan struck four times to take his tally for the season to 23 goals, substitute Chris Deane hit a brace while Aaron Presley and Oliver Sly also got in on the act for third-placed Marlborough.

“When we played Bromham earlier in the season, we were 1-0 down to them at half-time, so we made sure that the boys were prepared properly,” said manager Tom Thatcher.

“When we turned up, we thought that the pitch was awful. It was on a big hill and it was windy and cold, but we didn’t let that bother us.

“Dev Bryan has been great for us this season and we play off him a lot. He got four goals and we managed to get a few others as well.

“We had a 9-1 win at home (over Devizes Town Reserves) a five weeks ago but to get an 8-1 win away is brilliant – I think it’s our biggest away win on record.

“Everybody’s enjoying it at the moment and a few of our players are getting approaches from other clubs but most are choosing to stay with us, which is great.”

Meanwhile, Cricklade Town held their nerve to cut the gap on league leaders Shrewton United to a point.

Dave Coleman scored four times while Craig Shand was also on target as they came out on the right end of a 5-4 thriller with Devizes Town Reserves.

Jake Covery, Andrew Guppy and Scott Walduck notched as Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves won 3-2 at Beversbrook, for whom Leonard Khan and Tetenda Majondi found the net, while Trowbridge Town saw off Malmesbury Victoria Development 5-2.

Struggling Pewsey Vale Development were beaten 5-0 at Ludgershall Sports.
