WESTBURY United were able to end their three game winless streak with a 3-0 success at home to Chard Town at the weekend.

George Bendle, Nick Taylor and Ian Groves all got on the score sheet in a win which saw Westbury equal their points tally for the whole of last season (30).

The first half was an even affair on a difficult surface due to the weather conditions, with neither team able to get control of the ball.

However the first period was able to produce a last when Bendle latched onto a ball from Jamie Jordan, before cutting inside and powering his shot past the Chard goalkeeper at his near post.

After the break James Goddard’s side were able to establish some authority on proceedings, Westbury captain James Hounsell was working hard alongside Jordan Pinder to support debutant Taylor.

Taylor was enjoying a fine display in his first outing for the club and he finally got his reward in the 66th minute when he doubled Westbury’s lead.

The goal came after Pinder found himself in space on the right before whipping in a cross which went over the head of the Chard keeper into the path of the incoming Taylor who slotted the ball home to stretch their advantage.

Two then became three eight minutes later when Groves, who came on as a substitute for Otis Young, tucked home the third to seal the win for Goddard’s troops.

Jordan was heavily involved in the build up when his first touch took him round the Chard defence as he drove towards the goal before offloading the ball to Groves to apply the finish.

Westbury will now turn their attention to when they are back in action when they travel to promotion hopefuls Roman Glass St George on Saturday afternoon.

Warminster Town were unable to play their fixture against Calne Town as their game was postponed because of a frozen pitch but will hope they can get the pitch up to scratch ahead of Bishop Sutton’s visit.

Corsham Town weren’t in action either, meaning Nigel Tripp’s side will be well rested ahead of their trip to second placed Wellington
