NOT even the absence of boss Josh Jefferies can stop Frome Town's unlikely promotion charge at the moment.

Wednesday night's 3-2 home success over Cirencester Town was a fourth win in five matches for the Special Effect Stadium men, who are currently sixth but only four points off second spot.

That's despite a season which has seen former manager Nick Bunyard handed a ban until 2019 for betting offences, take another bizarre twist with Jefferies in the midst of a three-match stadium sanction for comments he made about that case.

Jefferies was forced to follow events at Saturday's 2-0 win at Dunstable and midweek via the media and will miss the Boxing Day home appointment with Basingstoke before returning to the dugout at Chippenham Town on January 2.

Yet after goals from Jake Jackson and Oliver Knight handed them victory in Bedfordshire at the weekend, two goals from Mickey Bryant and Dean Griffiths in the first 25 minutes on Wednesday set up the success against struggling Ciren, who responded through a Tony Lee double.

"We're keeping our heads down and looking after ourselves,'' reflected Jefferies on his side's form.

"I'm struggling to describe what these lads have done after what's happened this season. It's incredible.''
