WARMINSTER Town enjoyed a Boxing Day bonanza as they bagged their first away win in the league since October.

Mark Breffit’s side made the short trip to local rivals Westbury United looking to build on the previous weekend’s 1-1 draw with Cheddar.

Eben Mortimer-Taylor gave the visitors the lead in the opening 10 minutes in this Toolstation League First Division clash before Westbury hauled themselves level following a Matt Jones header.

However, strikes from Sam Clift and Jack Miluk ensured that the points would be heading back to Weymouth Street.

“It was a really good performance,” said Breffit. “The lads did really well and worked really hard and deserved the win.

“We took the lead after about 10 minutes and then they equalised from a set piece – that is something we need to cut out.

“But the lads have been playing really well lately, we just maybe need to be a little bit more streetwise.

“It was a big win for us but, at the end of the day, it was only three points.”

Warminster have a break from action this weekend and will return on January 7 when they head to Chippenham Park.

“In one respect it is good that the lads get a break as they used a lot of energy against Westbury and they can recharge the batteries,” the Warminster chief added.

“But we’ve now got a bit of momentum and it would have been good to go and try and build on that.

“When we go to Chippenham Park we will try and make it three games unbeaten.”

The win for Warminster saw them climb up to 13th in the table, while Westbury slipped to 15th.

Elsewhere in the division, Corsham Town picked up a useful point in their battle for survival.

Nigel Tripp took his 19th place side to 10th placed Devizes looking for their first win since the end of October and came home with a share of the spoils following a goalless draw.

Corsham return to action in the new year when they make the journey to Almondsbury UWE on January 7.
