FROME Town may have racked up an incredible 8-1 win over Redditch United last Saturday but boss Josh Jeffries reckons they could have been even more goals.

The victory at the Blindmans Brewery Stadium follows a run of three draws in a row and extends the Robins’ unbeaten sequence in Southern League Premier Division to nine matches, moving them within a point of the play-offs.

“It wasn’t a scoreline that flattered us, the boys were absolutely tremendous,” said Jeffries.

“I am struggling to find the words to describe what the boys have achieved in the last few months. To win 8-1 in the Southern League is unheard of and it could have been more, if I am honest.

“In the first 10 to 15 minutes, we found it a bit tough going and we thought it was just going to be one of those days but once we clicked, we were incredible.

“I think the Redditch keeper might even have got man of the match for them too, so that shows what sort of day it was.

“I said to the lads that I felt it was four dropped points in the last two games so I really wanted to go out and get a win. The way they responded to that was amazing.

“Things can change very quickly and there are always highs and lows but I can’t remember being involved in a scoreline of eight at this level before.

“Days like that don’t come round very often, so it was very special and we will try to savour it.”

Jake Jackson, who bagged a hat-trick on the day, opened the scoring for Frome midway through the first half before further strikes from Oliver Knight and Mike Bryant put them 3-0 up at the break.

Sam Teale got the ball rolling after the interval before Redditch got themselves on the scoreboard on the hour.

Frome were quickly back in their stride and Jon Davies netted from the penalty spot to begin a run of three goals in three minutes as Jackson and Bryant also both got their second goals of the game.

Town were not done their, though, and Jackson had the final word in stoppage time when he completed his treble.

Frome hey travel to Chesham United on Saturday.
