WARMINSTER Town manager Mark Breffit believes his side missed a golden opportunity to win all three points at the weekend as they drew 1-1 with Welton Rovers.

Breffit’s boys were unbeaten in their last four games heading into the match and were looking to kick on following their 5-1 win over Malmesbury Victoria last time out.

That match was three weeks ago and it showed when Warminster fell behind in the first half after giving away a cheap penalty.

In the second half, Mark Robinson got the hosts back on terms and the visitors were there for the taking when Michael Thorpe was dismissed for a strong challenge on Ryan Baggs.

However, the Warminster boss admits his side didn’t capitalise on the situation to tally their 11th win of the season.

“We should have won the game. Like most weeks, we had the chances and we didn’t take them,” said Breffit.

“It was a silly goal to give away but we haven’t played in three weeks whereas they played last week.

“We gave away a silly penalty and in the second half, we were all over them. We got an early goal and looked like we were going to go on and win.

“Their keeper made some really good saves to be fair and you’ve got to credit him for the saves that he made.”

Despite the disappointment, the result does stretch Warminster's unbeaten run to five games, which means their last defeat came on December 10 last year.

Breffit believes that it is imperative for his side to maintain their good patch of form if they are to finish in the middle of the pack at the end of the season.

“Obviously, we would rather win but it’s not the end of the world because we showed good character in the second half,” added the Weymouth Street chief.

“We want to finish in the top half, so it’s really important that we keep going unbeaten. Each week, we are going into games thinking we aren’t going to get beaten, which breeds confidence.”

Elsewhere, a new management team could prevent Westbury United from slipping to defeat at Meadow Lane.

Joe and Neil Kirkpatrick were on the touchline for the first time at the weekend and watched their side fall to a disappointing 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Bishop Sutton, Joe Walters getting the only goal of the game.

Barry Crease, who worked alongside Neil at Larkhall Athletic, has also joined the Kirkpatricks as an assistant.

Corsham Town return to action with a trip to Sutton on Saturday.
