FROME Town manager Josh Jeffries was happy with his troops after they managed to snatch a late 1-1 draw at Chesham United in the Southern League Premier Division on Tuesday.

The visitors fell behind to Sam Youngs’ 82nd-minute goal but Frome’s persistence paid off when Aiden Kirby tapped home Ollie Knight’s cross two minutes later.

The point comes after Jeffries watched his side fall to a 2-1 defeat at home to Banbury United on Saturday. After going into the break 2-0 down, Clayton Green’s second-half strike was nothing more than a consolation.

“On Saturday we were completely not at it for whatever reason. I was due to go in at half-time unhappy but at least we were still in the game at 1-0,” said Jeffries.

“Then with the last kick of the half, one of our defenders lost his man on a corner and they poked it into the goal so I wasn’t pleased at half-time.

“We were brilliant in the second half and I thought we could win the game but it wasn’t meant to be. However, I am glad we were able to continue that on Tuesday.

“I was frustrated that we gave the goal away at Chesham, it was our own doing and a bit of a mistake on our part.

“But the players worked their socks off, it would have been a shame if we didn’t come away with anything. I think a draw is probably a fair result.”

Next up for Frome is a trip to league strugglers Cambridge City, but the Robins boss doesn’t want his side to read too much into their opponents' form as he looks for a good end to the season.

He added: “It is a long trip but I just want us to carry on as we have been all season. I don’t want the season to peter out, we need to finish as strongly as possible.”
