FROME Town manager Josh Jeffries was delighted with his side after they claimed a 3-0 win over Cambridge City despite playing with 10 men for an hour.

A hat-trick from Jake Jackson was more than enough to wrap up the win following Sam Teale’s straight red in the 32nd minute.

Jackson got off to a quick start as he put the visitors ahead with a goal in the ninth minute.

After the dismissal and conceding the penalty, Frome goalkeeper Kyle Phillips saved Goldy Capela’s spot-kick and in the 52nd minute, Jackson got his second, before completing the hat-trick in the 90th minute.

With a squad of 14 at the game, Jeffries admits it was a less than ideal situation for his team to be in, but pinpointed the penalty save as a pivotal point which determined the course of the game.

“We had our backs against the wall with the squad anyway, we only had one substitute plus me,” said the Frome boss.

“We were comfortable before the sending off and I even felt comfortable that we’d win if I could get them in at half-time at 1-0.

“They’ve just done it again and proved a few people wrong, it was amazing.

“I think the sending off was the right decision by the referee, it shouldn’t have come to that because we should have dealt with the first ball.

“Sam (Teale) has then tried to dive in and challenge but unfortunately he didn’t win the ball.

“I’ve seen Kyle make penalty saves before, he is a great shot-stopper. Obviously it was a great save and helped us a lot.”

The Frome boss also highlighted the performance of Jackson, who notched his second hat-trick of the season.

“He probably could have had a hat-trick in the first half but he missed a couple of chances which isn’t like him,” added Jeffries.

“He’s got 17 goals and it helps knowing if he gets a chance it is more than likely he will put it away.”

Next up for Jeffries is a trip to Kettering Town on Saturday and the Frome manager is more than aware his side will need to be at their best if they are to get a result.

“I’m looking forward to it, we are definitely going to be tested,” he said.

“They have a decent side with proven goal scorers so we will need to be at it if we are going to come away with anything.”
