THEIR last hope of silverware this season may have been extinguished, but manager Danny Greaves insists everyone at Bradford Town has their eyes on a bigger prize in future years.

The Trowbridge Road side were ousted from the Toolstation League’s Les Phillips Cup after a 2-1 defeat at Gillingham Town on Saturday, ending any prospect of lifting a trophy in what has been a largely successful campaign.

Bradford are currently fifth in the Premier Division and on course for their highest top-flight finish since they were promoted from the First Division in the 2013-14 season.

But Greaves, who took over last summer following the departure of previous boss Paul Shanley and will remain at the club next term, insists the club have their sights firmly set on expanding their horizons.

Neighbours Melksham Town, currently third, have already applied to ascend to Southern League level next season and Greaves admits Bradford have their own ambitions in that direction.

“The ambition for everyone at the club is to try and get to that Southern League within the next two or three years,’’ said the Town boss.

“Myself and the chairman (Mark Hodkinson) have some views on it and everyone behind the scenes is keen. We’ve had a good look at what we need to do and hopefully we can take it to the next level.

“We’ve had good talks over the last couple of weeks, about what players we want to try and get in to help us push on again next season.’’ Bradford strung together a seven-match winning run in February and early March, a sequence that earned them the team of the month award and Greaves the manager of the month accolade.

He added: “It’s a tough league and we’re within that top five or six bracket, which has been a good achievement.

“When we look back on it, we’ll look at that amount of draws we’ve had and we can can see that we’re not far away at all.

“The challenge is to take it on further.

“We’re disappointed (to end without a trophy this season) because we feel as though we’ve had a good season. Ninety-five per cent of it has been very good.’’
