BOTH Freshford United and Westbury Town concluded their season on Saturday afternoon, the hosts having to settle for a share of the spoils.
Westbury came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw which means that Chris Birleson’s Freshford remain ahead of Luxol St Andrews in their battle to claim the runners up spot behind Melksham Town A.
After a fruitless first half it was Freshford who went in front courtesy of a Nick Ross effort. Tom Blackman netted Westbury’s equaliser.
A week after they were beaten 2-0 at Stockton & Codford, near-neighbours Heytesbury hosted their rivals needing a victory to have any hopes of staying in the top flight.
But once again it was Stockton who were victorious as a 9-2 victory set them up nicely for Tuesday night’s A&B Cup Final with Luxol St Andrews and condemned Heytesbury to relegation.
Jason Povey thumped home the opener on 24 minutes and Mark Bailey double the lead before half-time.
Povey made it 3-0 early in the second half, prior to Dan Dicks netting for Heytesbury.
Two quick-fire goals for Ashley Caws and two more from Povey made it 7-1.
Caws completed his hat-trick for 8-1 and after Luke McGuckian’s late consolation for Heytesbury, Povey bagged his fifth and Stockton’s ninth of the afternoon.
