BOTH Corsham Town and Calne Town announced changes to their managerial set-ups this week.

Corsham saw Nigel Tripp announce that he would be stepping down at the end of the season, while Dave Ferris has been removed from his role at the Lilywhites.

Tripp guided his side to a 2-1 victory at Welton Rovers on Saturday thanks to goals from Marcus Brown and Tom Harvey.

But after the victory, which all but guaranteed the club’s Toolstation League First Division survival, he told club chairman Chris Perry he would leave his role in the summer following a turbulent campaign in charge.

Tripp was sacked, then subsequently reinstated in February, following a boardroom and membership split which paralysed the club and led to the departure of the bulk of the first-team squad.

“I spoke to the chairman at the game on Saturday and told him I wasn’t going to be carrying on next season,” said Tripp.

“The original plan was to go there and try to get them out of trouble until the end of the season, so hopefully we have achieved that.

“The way in which it was all handled was shambolic and unprofessional.

“People aren’t committed so you’re better off working with youngsters who want to learn, instead of senior players, who haven’t achieved much when they think they have, unavailable all the time.”

Unlike Tripp, Ferris was axed by the Calne’s chairman Garry Murphy, who will take joint charge of the team in their final two league fixtures.

Murphy said: “Myself and the committee reluctantly feel that a change of leadership is required for next season.

“Dave Ferris has been released from his duties at Calne Town FC after a difficult short spell in charge.

“Stability was key this season, however results are ultimately the requirement.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Dave for his time with the club, his commitment and energy he has shown.”

The news came as Steven Allison led the line with a hat-trick, while Aaron Witchell completed the scoring for a 4-0 win over Chard Town on Saturday.

Ferris, who took over from Neurin Jones in November, admits he was disappointed to learn he had been shown the door but accepts the decision of Murphy.

“Of course I am disappointed. When I took over, Calne Town were on the verge of losing one of their sides,” said Ferris. “The results weren’t the best but some of the weekends we did struggle for players and some of the performances were better than the results.

“The future of Calne Town is the young lads, not because they are nice lads but because they are talented too, I just hope they get the chance to play next season.”

Calne travel to Roman Glass St George on Wednesday and then Bishop Sutton on Saturday, the Lilywhites being three points adrift of third from bottom Welton Rovers with a game in hand.

Players Marcus Lovesey, Jamie Lloyd-Davies and chairman Murphy will take charge for the remaining two fixtures.

Malmesbury Victoria were unable to prevent defeat as they were beaten 4-3 at home by Wellington, Krystian Hext, Jamie Packer and Ewen Kenny were all on target.

Westbury United also fell short of the mark as they were beaten 3-2 away to Cheddar with Jordan Pinder and Jake Stephenson notching.

Meanwhile Warminster Town had a fine day as they won 7-1 away to Oldland Abbotonians.

Jack Miluk and Mark Robertson both registered doubles, while Charlie Walton, Eben Mortimer-Taylor and George Butler bagged solitary efforts.
