DEPARTING Corsham Town manager Nigel Tripp admits it was nice to sign off his time at the Southbank with a win.

Despite having two players sent off in his final fixture, Corsham were able to hold firm and claim all three points in a narrow 1-0 win away to Portishead Town.

Josh Bright got the visitors into a good position with a goal in the first half before Aaron Masson was handed a straight red card in the opening exchanges of the second period.

Emilio Muprak joined Masson when he was handed his second yellow card of the game but Corsham held out.

“It was disappointing leading up to the game because I had 13 players who were unavailable so we went there with the bare XI,'' said Tripp.

“Basically that sums up the players of today if you ask me. People have got more important things to do, it’s become secondary really.

“The ones who were left were the ones who are there every week and I take my hat off to them because they show what you can achieve when you work hard.

“I think the only way is to go back (for Corsham) to the three-year plan, not just seven months. People lost patience with it which is unfortunate.

“The players who have all come in have a superb attitude and I think that is what’s missing in football these days.''

While the Corsham Town chief will miss aspects of his role, he refuses to rush into anything as he plans a short break from the game.

“I’m going to take break from football because I have been doing it for God knows how long, I’ll have a few weeks off at least,” he added.

Warminster Town failed to convert a 1-0 advantage at the break as they lost 3-2 away to Chard Town.

Thomas Golledge and Charlie Walton were both on target but Mark Breffit’s troops were unable to hold off the hosts as they snatched a goal in the 86th minute to seal the victory.

Westbury United were unable to redeem themselves from their earlier defeat as they drew 1-1 with Hengrove Athletic in their final game of the Toolstation League Division One season.

Martin Johnson put the home side ahead but saw his goal cancelled out by Asa White, with an hour on the clock.
