BRADFORD Town chief Danny Greaves is disappointed their run in the Wiltshire Senior Cup was brought to an end on Wednesday night.

The Bobcats suffered a 3-2 extra-time defeat to Toolstation League First Division leaders Westbury United, who scored in the dying stages of the game.

The Trowbridge Road outfit went into the match on the back of a stunning 2-1 FA Vase second round success at Buckland Athletic thanks to goals from Martin Lenihan and Sam Jordan.

Bradford will now entertain Sydenhams League Premier Division side Team Solent in the third round after they defeated South West Penisula League Premier Division high-flyers Tavistock 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Greaves, however, will not have much time to wallow in the Westbury setback as he takes his Bradford side to Toolstation Premier Division leaders Street in the Les Phillips Cup this evening.

“We knew that this run of three cup games was going to be tough,” said Greaves, who saw James Moon sent off against Westbury. “Saturday was fantastic but it took a lot out of the players.

“We had to patch a side together to face Westbury and fair play to them they got the win.

“Extra-time was the last thing we needed especially as we have got Street, who are top of our league, on Friday.

“Westbury defended really well and took their chances.

Meanwhile, Melksham Town manager Kieran Baggs hailed the impact of fit-again striker Jake Brown after his hat-trick helped fire them through to the third round of the FA Vase with a 4-1 win.

The summer signing from Wells City returned to the squad a fortnight ago after a hamstring problem, but on Saturday against Hellenic League Premier Division Wantage Town he showed no signs of being hampered as goals, along with Warren Maidment’s early strike, fired the Oakfields men through.

“Anyone watching the game will know that we deserved that result,” said Baggs, who will now take his side to Toolstation League Premier Division rivals Bridgwater Town in the third round on Saturday, December 2.

“Jake Brown got a hat-trick and he was absolutely superb.

“He was a player that I was desperate to bring to the club in the summer he’s just been unlucky with injuries.

“He missed a chunk of pre-season, got himself into the team and then picked up a bad hamstring injury.

“He has been back fit the last couple of games and he has been superb.”

Like Bradford however, Melksham were unable to make through in the Wiltshire Senior Cup as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Chippenham Town on Tuesday.
