AFTER securing back-to-back wins for the first time since October, Chippenham Town boss Mark Collier has urged his players to maintain the momentum this weekend.

A 3-1 win over Whitehawk, which was their third win on the road in National League South this season, set the Bluebirds up nicely for Tuesday night’s Wiltshire Senior Cup semi-final, where they dispatched Bemerton Heath Harlequins 8-0 at Melksham Town’s Oakfields Stadium.

Weston-Super-Mare are next up for Chippenham as they return to league action and Collier stressed to his side that it is paramount they keep on ticking over and reminded his squad they are all needed for the run-in.

“Tuesday’s game was good, we got minutes into players who needed them and we made seven changes to the team who played on Saturday,” he said.

“I said to the players afterwards that we have a squad of 20 players and we are going to need all of them from now until the end of the season.

“We have Weston on Saturday and it is always a difficult game. They are still in and around the play-offs, they play a great brand of football.

“They try to play from the back, pass the ball and get the full-backs high up the pitch – we know what to expect from them and they know what to expect from us.

“We are in good form. We should be full of confidence after a good away win and our home form has always been pretty decent.

“It is a game that we will target three points in. We need to get some victories. Teams at the bottom of the league are picking up and we need to make sure that we keep up with them.

“Saturday is the start of back-to-back home games, but at the moment we aren’t looking any further than the weekend.”

With two victories in the bag, Collier says it can only breed confidence within the club as they aim to ease their relegation concerns.

However, striker Nick McCootie, who made a scoring return to action on Wednesday night, is still a doubt for this weekend’s game.

“To go and win away in good style makes a lot of difference. The coach journeys back are very different when you’ve won a game of football,” added Collier.

“At this moment in time, Nick may not be fit enough to start, but we are hoping we can name him in the matchday 16.

“Everyone else should be fit and that has given me a bit of a headache in terms of selection.”
