WESTBURY United boss Neil Kirkpatrick believes his side face the toughest run-in out of their Toolstation League First Division title rivals.

Kirkpatrick’s men picked up six crucial points in five days as a 1-0 win at Ashton and Backwell United on Saturday was followed by a pleasing 3-0 home win against Roman Glass St George on Wednesday night.

United entered their latest contest level on points with Roman Glass, meaning the three-goal win helped the hosts establish a three-point cushion between themselves and their visitors, while second-placed Keynsham Town were relegated from the top spot on goal difference.

But thoughts of a quiet weekend for Westbury can be immediately wiped as Kirkpatrick prepares his troops to face Keynsham in another table-topping clash on Saturday.

He said: “Tuesday night’s win was big, but it was as equally as important as all of our other wins this season.

“We won by three goals against a side that are in the promotion hunt with us, but we only get three points.

“We had a good result on Saturday and we kicked on from that against Roman Glass St George.

“It was nice to see some clinical finishing, we’ve been winning a lot of 1-0 games this season.

“But we’ve pinched points from our rivals, we’re pleased with that.

“We still have nine tough games to play. We’ve dropped points against those at the lower end of the table, and at the top, it’s understandably tight.”

A period of four games in 10 days over Easter makes Westbury’s task no easier, but Kirkpatrick hopes a strength-in-depth squad of 19 can help guide his team through a hectic schedule.

He said: “I believe on paper we’ve got the hardest run-in of those teams aiming for promotion.

“Radstock and Devizes will be tough games, as will Chard, and we have a couple of games against teams fighting for their lives at the bottom – they won’t be easy.

“We absolutely cannot afford to take any game lightly.

“Warminster on Good Friday will be a scrap and hundreds will watch that game. It will be a battle.

“We have to approach each game professionally.

“At the same time, the teams must to go out and enjoy themselves.

“If you can’t enjoy a run like this, then what can you enjoy.”

Competition for a starting spot in the Westbury squad has been made tougher too following Kirkpatrick’s addition of Joe Stradling.

Only goalkeeper Lewis Porter is suffering from an injury as Kirkpatrick explained his side is otherwise at full strength.

He said: “All teams will be playing Saturdays and Tuesdays from here, injuries and suspensions will be picked up.

“The addition of Joe has woken a few people up, it’s good to have competition for starting spots in the club.”

Elsewhere, struggling Corsham Town suffered a 4-1 defeat against high-flying Radstock Town in midweek.

The loss means Jamie Harrison’s men find themselves 18th in the division, only three points clear of 21st placed Portished Town.
