MELKSHAM Town Reserves’ lead at the top of the Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division table now stands at 11 points as they edged out their battling Westbury United counterparts 2-1 on Saturday.

While second-placed Cricklade Town’s trip to face bottom side Bassett Bulldogs in Calne was one of two fixtures to be lost to the weather, Town took full advantage as goals from Emilio Menghini and Tom Mack proved enough for the win, despite Paul Gittins replying for United.

Cricklade also have several sides breathing down their necks for second spot, Kintbury Rangers moving into third and to within a point as they defeated Devizes Town Reserves 4-1.

Despite conceding an early own goal, Kintbury led at the interval as George Smith and Shaun Thorp found the net.

An eighth league win in succession was wrapped up after the break as Alex Smith and Harry Way struck.

Wroughton moved level with fourth-placed Shrewton United as they administered a 5-1 thumping to hosts Ludgershall Sports to register their fifth straight win in the league.

Aaron Maximen bagged a double, while leading scorer Shane Hibbert, Ollie Wile and Tom Dingle also found the net.

Corsham Town Reserves’ recent fine form came to an abrupt end as they were turned over at Marlborough Town.

Town clinched the three points with a 2-1 win, Tom Mooney and Christopher Deane scoring to secure a fifth success in their last six. Ali Mayoh replied.

Purton clinched a 3-1 success over local rivals Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development at the Red House.

Andrew Bilko, Jack Duckers and former Bassett player Scott Walduck found the net, with Nick Mason replying.

The two sides are due to meet again on Wednesday.
