WESTBURY United joint-manager Joe Kirkpatrick says everyone at Meadow Lane is rallying themselves for a grandstand finish in the race for the Toolstation League First Division title.

United are one of three teams separated by a single point at the top of the table, but recent results have put the Wiltshire side in pole position.

Leaders Roman Glass St George and Keynsham Town both dropped points over the course of the last week, while Westbury were not in action themselves.

That has left United a point behind Roman Glass in second but with a game in hand on both of their title rivals.

Westbury head into their final three fixtures knowing maximum points will see them crowned champions, although Kirkpatrick says nothing will be taken for granted when they begin that run at home to Bishop Sutton on Saturday.

“It’s a bit of a cliché, but it’s the first of three cup finals for us. We dropped points against Bishop Sutton earlier on in the season so we know we’ll have to be right on it,” said Kirkpatrick.

“It’s in our hands now, we’re not relying on anyone dropping points, unlike the others.

“That said, we have three very tough games. We’re playing three sides that we’ve dropped points against, so we will be looking to put that right.”

Whatever happens, Westbury are on course to hit new heights in their first full season under Kirkpatrick, who shares management responsibilities at Meadow Lane alongside his father, Neil.

He said: “So far it’s been a great first season working alongside my dad and assistant managers Barry Crease and Luke Smith.

“It’s good to have their experience alongside me, and when I’m playing myself, I know I can rely on them on the sidelines to make the right calls.

“This season has flown by. We’ve played near enough over 50 games so with three remaining, let’s hope we can end on a high.

“It is three cup finals, so let’s see where we can end up.”

By contrast, Warminster Town continued their struggles at the bottom of the table with two home defeats to Wiltshire rivals this week.

They were beaten 3-1 by Corsham Town on Saturday before going down 2-0 to Calne Town on Tuesday.

Corsham were also in action again on Tuesday, losing a 4-3 thriller at Wincanton Town.
