MELKSHAM Town’s hopes of promotion from the Toolstation League Premier Division were boosted at the weekend as Kieran Baggs’ men recorded a 2-1 win at home to Wellington.

Gary Higdon scored twice for the home side as Melksham came from behind against their mid-table rivals to remain second and edge three points further clear of third-placed Bradford Town with one game remaining.

While Melksham’s win came as welcome news to fans, Bradford Town’s promotion credentials were ended after they lost a 4-3 thriller against Willand Rovers.

The Bobcats required a win against Willand given results elsewhere in the division.

Despite coming from behind on three occasions, Sam Jordan scoring twice and Martin Lenihan the other, Town’s promotion hopes were ended when the hosts scored a fourth four minutes from time.

Meanwhile in Division One, Westbury recorded a 3-1 win at home to Bishop Sutton.

Neil Kirkpatrick’s men were level at half-time, but Daniel Price scored his – and Westbury’s – second goal 10 minutes into the second half to hand the home side the advantage once more.

Joshua Ferguson rounded off the scoring for Westbury with an effort on 86 minutes.

The result leaves Westbury second in Division One, two points short of table-topping Roman St Glass George but with two games in hand.

Devizes Town were also in winning form as they put four past a lacklustre Oldland Abbotonians, Jack Hopper, Ali Bradley, Matt Russell and Tom Slater on target as they now sit fifth with two games remaining.

In other results Malmesbury Victoria were restricted to a 1-1 draw against Corsham Town, Leigh Rogers on target for Corsham, while bottom club Warminster suffered a 3-1 loss at Wincanton.

Calne Town lost 5-0 at home to Sherborne Town.
