JAZZ Carlin will go into tomorrow evening's women's 800m freestyle final off the back of setting a new Commonwealth Games record today.

The 23-year-old Wales ace, who is a former Wootton Bassett School pupil, set a new Games record of 8:22.69 as she won her heat at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow this morning.

"I've put everything into my swimming this year, so I really wanted to put in a strong heat to get ready for the final tomorrow," Carlin told BBC Sport.

"I need to relax ahead of the final and eat the right food. It's about being calm and relaxed for the final - I don't want to be stressed.

"After missing out on London I haven't experienced a home Games like this before and the crowd have been amazing."

Meanwhile, Melksham's Rachel Williams finished fifth in both her 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley heats this morning.

The 20-year-old, who is also representing Wales in her first Commonwealths, was tenth-fastest overall in the backstroke and 13th in the medley.
