OSCAR Lippiatt and Finn Aubrey were both in the medals at the British Gas National Age Group Diving Championships in Sheffield.

The West Wiltshire Diving Club duo brought home three medals with Lippiatt claiming two bronzes and Aubrey a silver.

The weekend started off with the pair narrowly missing out on a medal in the boys 3m Synchro and Finn, of Bradford on Avon and who attends St Laurence School, missed out ona medal by 0.15 points in the group A 1m.

The team, who train at Trowbridge Sports Centre, regained focus for the Platform event.

Aubrey scored sevens and eights on his back dive with tuck, secured silver with a total score of 255.75, while he clubmate finished in the bronze medal position with a score of 248.15.

After a year of illness and limited training Lippiatt, who lives in St Catherine near Bath, put in an impressive performance to earn himself a bronze medal in the boys A 3m springboard.

In a competitive field there was little room for error. Scoring 47.15 for his inward 2 1/1 somersaults with tuck and 48.15 for a forward 2 ½ somersaults piked, Lippiatt held his nerve and scored a season’s best of 306.35.

His clubmate Jordan Edwards, also from Bradford on Avon, achieved his highest place in a National diving final finishing in sixth place, with Finn Aubrey also putting in solid performance on the 3m board.

Head coach Melanie Sweetman said: “The team have had a really difficult year, with limited access to the diving facilities at Trowbridge. We have been plagued by ongoing illness which has led to disappointment and frustration.

“The boys are have put in a really good performance and Jordan’s performance in particular is very encouraging for the future.”

Sweetman added: “The standard of divers that we produce in our little club, ensures that we are always recognised nationally and this is makes me very proud.”
