OWNER John Deer is in no rush to decide whether Wiltshire-trained Al Kazeem will be brought back to the racecourse next year following his creditable effort in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.

The six-year-old, trained by Roger Charlton at Beckhampton, clinched three Group One prizes during a tremendous 2013 campaign and although he was retired at the end of the year to the Royal Studs at Sandringham, he was sent back into training by Deer after proving sub-fertile.

He has not quite reached his previous heights, but was not disgraced in finishing 10th in Paris on Sunday and Deer must now decide whether to let his pride and joy race on next year or retire him once more to his own Oakgrove Stud in Monmouthshire.

Deer said: "I thought he ran very well. He was a little bit unfortunate as he lost his position and got shuffled back when a few horses came across him from the outside, which probably cost him two or three lengths.

"We're not making excuses, though. Treve is an unbelievable filly and was a great winner and our horse still ran a good race.

"I really don't know what we're going to do now. I'm going to put a bit of thought into it and I'll take guidance from a few people, including Roger, of course.

"He won't run in the Champion Stakes and I think if we do decide to bring him back next year, he'll be sticking to a mile and a half."
